Pain in back/chest

by mas2782, Oct 24, 2007 08:54PM
I am a 30 year old male...

I have been having different levels of ectopics, etc. since a lone bout of A-Fib back in summer of 2006. On and off since last summer I have had some pains in my upper left shoulder blade which I am pretty positive are muscular in nature. But I've also gotten pain radiating into my chest and arms...and it has become more and more constant.

I was actually sent to ER once when I called my cardio late in the day...the doc did the enzyme workout and said "no heart attack"...pain was probably from carrying around my 2 year old on my
left side (he weighs 35 lbs). This was LAST fall.

Anyway, I have had multiple echos, stress test in 03/06 and various blood work...everything says I am fine. I run 9-12 miles a week...it doesn't seem to bother me. I have no history of CAD other than a great uncle that I know of. My cholesterol is 171...though my last HDL was low.

I finally got my EP to agree to do a test regarding the pain...he is having me do a stress test in a few weeks. In the meantime I am wondering if this is a waste of time if the test isn't even 100% for
determining CAD. I'd like to either have them give me a CT Scan or 64 slice scan...

What is the best test to get done without having to go through a cath? I really want to avoid that, especially since they don't think this is heart related but I want to make sure. I also don't want to waste time and money with a scan that won't show what needs to be shown if necesary.

Is a scan any better than a stress test?

Thanks
Tom

Tom, i am haveing the same pain that you are, like a burning pain in my upper left shoulder blade. I also get sharp  pains in my chest, a rapid heart rate at times and shortness of breath. I also have some other symptoms but, I think that I am suffering from anxiety. I am not a doctor so I am not sure. The pain in my back just devloped over the last week .I see that you posted this a few weeks ago, have you had any chages?
