Pain on exertion

Pain on exertion

Doctor,

When I walk I get pain in my bicep and near the elbow.  When I stop walking it will go away.  My doctor doesn't think it is angina but tendonitis or something like that and suggests we watch it for awhile and try anti-inflammatory meds.  What might be causing this pain that comes and goes with exertion if it is not angina?  Should I be comfortable with my doctor's explanation?  Thank you very much for your help.

Dear Terry,

Sometimes it is not always immediately clear what the source of something like this is.  I agree with you that it could be angina like pain but your doctor could also be correct.  I would try the anti-inflammatory drugs and if they don't help insist on a stress test to exclude angina.
