Yes, about 50% of my PVCs (blessedly rare) come with a sharp little jab in my chest. My GP says he sometimes gets that feeling too, so I guess it isn't uncommon from what I've heard.
Thanks everyone. Just came back from my electrophysiologist. He has me wearing a holter for 24hrs. I was scheduled to go in Feb. but I really didn't like getting these little 'sparks' or pains and called him today. He squeezed me in to get my holter. He's now talking about ablation surgery for me (scares me to death). I started out with 30,000 PVC's down to 10,600 or so and now we'll see what this holter brings. The medicines are working but it's just scary that I now have this little sparky thing in my chest that I haven't had before now. I also have to consider taking the Lexapro, it's supposed to really help with the PVC's as it controls your reactions to the PVC's which then keeps you calmer. I guess I should try that too. Thanks again.
yes i have those quite frequently and have heard from others on this site that have that as well, sometimes it feels like an electrical shock too, i have even felt it in my mouth as well as the middle of my chest, they're sort of scary but i dont think that they're any more dangerous
Heart attack pain is not sharp.
A good friend of mine and I both have MVP and we both used to get a sharp pain as teenagers. We'd be yapping on the phone and say "Hold on, it's that pain" and the other would take up the slack talking on and on until it passed and we'd go on conversing and not think about it. He had been diagnosed already and he told me, by my description of the pain, that I had it too. I never bothered to check it out, though the regular doc listened to my chest and told my mom to take me to a cardio when I was 18. I assume it was a click/ murmur thing he heard.
Mom never took me to the cardio. I assume she was afraid because my father had dropped dead when he was 43 of a heart attack and her own sister at 29 and her brother died of mitral regurge. Not an intelligent response I know, but I think she either didn't understand or just didn't want to know. I forgot about it and never got a cardiac exam until they started noticing I always had tatchycardia ( I had no idea) and did the Holter and echo to make sure I was okay.
I didn't get diagnosed with MVP until a few years ago when they were checking for something else.
My friend was right. We were also right to ignore the pain.
Harmless.
