Palpatations?

I am a 30 year old in very good shape, but have noticed some irregular beats in my heart this summer. They are becoming more frequent.
The onset is that I don't feel quit right, then I feel a flutter in my chest. If I take my pulse, my heart beats 14-16 time, pauses then slams, hard, back into beating again. What is this?
Sound I be tested?

I HAVE BEEN HAVING SEVERE POUNDING IN MY HEART. IT IS VERY LOUD I CAN HEAR IT SEE IT AND FEEL THE POUNDING. AFTER TWO YEARS OF SEEING THE HEART DOCTOR AND WEARING THE HOLTER MONITER, THEY FOUND NOTHING. IN JUNE OF 99 I STARTED BLACKING OUT HAVING PANIC ATTACKS AND ANIXETY ATTACKS. THE HEART DCOTOR WANTED TO DO ANOTHER STRESS TEST. I REFUSED, AND ASKED FOR A HEART CATH AND SHE AGREED. AT THE END OF MY HEART CATH WE FOUND OUT THAT I HAD A 97% BLOCKAGE AND HAD ANGIO PLASTY. I DO HAVE A STINT. NOW MY HEART IS STILL RACING AND THEY HAVE FOUND A LEAKING VALVE. THEY ARE NOT CORSERNED ABOUT IT. I COME FROM A FAMILY OF HEART TROUBLE TWO BROTHERS HAVE ALREADY HAD BYPASSES IN THEIR 30'S MOM AND DAD BOTH HAVE HAD HEART ATTACKS I DO NOT FEEL THE DOCTORS ARE TAKING ME SERIOUSLY. I AM VERY STRESSED AND HAVE BEEN TOLD I AM A MILD MANIC DEPRESSENT. BETWEEN THE PANIC ATTACKS AND THE ANXITY AND NOW THE SEVERE MOOD SWINGS I FEEL THAT I AM A PRIME HEART ATTACK WAITING TO HAPPEN.I DO HAVE LOTS OF PALPATATIONS BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD TO IGNORE THEM HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE. I ALSO HAVE CHEST PAIN BUT NOT SEVERE. NOW I GUESS MY QUESTION IS DO I GO OUT OF STATE FOR MORE HELP OR DO I SETTLE FOR WHAT IS ALREADY DONE FOR ME

I have been having Chest pains on the left side of my chest, and  I have been having alot of palpitations. Sometimes at night My heart will skip a beat and then start racing. It is mostly  when I am laying on my left side.  I went to the doctor and He Said I have a heart murmur and Mitral valve prolapse. I am going to have an echocardiogram in 2 days and wear a monitor. I have reynauds Syndrome and Irritable bowel syndrome. I read somewhere that those things can be related to Mitral valve prolapse. Is this true? Thank you!  Julie R.

Hello and Happy Valentines Day.... My daughter is 11 years old
and they found last week that her heart is beating too fast...
Sometimes it goes up to 180 and right back down to 80 and she is sitting still... It has not been under 85 in a week..Even when she is sleeping.  We had an echocardiogram last week and an EKG
and they didn't show anything... We are very concerned, but we don't know where to turn... Please help if you can...
Thanks......

Katherine,
The symptoms you describe, I know for some people turn out not to be serious, but for my husband they were serious.  He, also, started out with the irregular beats and feeling like they were pounding.  They were skipped beats, which again sometimes are not serious, but when he had an echocardiogram he was discovered to have a cardiomyopathy.  He was 34 at the time of this and was thin with normal blood pressure, cholesterol and no previous cardiac history.  Please see your doctor.

It is impossible to diagnose "extra" heart beats without a heart tracing.  The best test for this type of problem is a Holter monitor which is worn around the neck for a day so these beats can be recorded.

I have a heart condition w/palpitation and I would get it checked if I were you. You could only have peace of mind from it. Also when do you noticed it? After excercise? After a meal? This would help the Dr. to give you better advice.
