In January of this year I had an emergencyEmergency airway puncture Emergency contraceptionpacemaker fitted to controlControl Control rxBradycardiaArrhythmias Bradycardia Sick sinus syndrome at 21 beats per minute. Unfortunately, far from feeling like "the new woman" I'd been promised, this seemed to have aggrivated my pre-existing condition of Palpitations which I've suffered from since age 7. Most recent count is 15 ambulances and shots of Adenosene since end February! Have just received my appointment for cardiac ablation due to be done end of May. My consultant or EPS specialist there (we fondly refer to him as "Sparky") has told me that my Palpitations are the common form of S.V.T.'s and that I have an electrical fault with my sinus node. However, he believes that it is impossible for anyone to have a AV node which is so bad that it can allow the heart rate to fall so dramatically and then, conversely, to allow the heart rate to race away at 250bpm which is what mine does.
My question, mainly, is - has anyone else been diagnosed with both extremes being caused by one common factor?
My Sparky seemed to hint at the fact that he doesn't see the fitting of a pacemaker as being necessary but I'm pretty certain that my "plumber" (Sparky's boss) would have spent all that time, effort and expense at sticking something in that didn't need to absolutely be there (never mind the pain caused to me as it was inserted deep under the muscle!).
Lastly you brave people who have already undertaken the ablation, how long did it take you to recover? Days or weeks???
Thanks so much. It's so good to know that I'm not alone!
