Palpitations - AV Node

Palpitations - AV Node

I visited my cardiologist yesterday first time since i had an ER visit in late July & an event monitor study done, so i went over few things w/him...

He said what my personal MD said,as well as doctors in forums, that there is no reason he could think of to repeat an echo, that was structurally normal a year and half ago....

From the event monitor, it sounded like my extra beats originated from the AV node? ..With regards to an EKG done in the ER, he said there was NO A-Fib, as my P waves were good/normal..I think A-Fib is absent of P waves all together...I asked him several times, and he was not worried about these beats degenerating into anything worse...He did say he could prescribe Beta blocker or Calcium channel blocker, but i really don't want to take any medications, he mentioned these beats could be a nuisance but again was not concerned about them being dangerous...He said something similar to what the ER physican said, about they don't see major cardiac events in people w/structurally normal hearts....

1. If i understood his description correctly (forgive my laymans terms) when the sinus node is controliing the rhythm, everything is normal....When the AV node takes over, palpitations/rhythm disturbances arise..Is this a form of SVPT, PAC, or something else?....What happens when BOTH nodes are sending signals at the exact same time?

Thanks

This most commonly is something called AVNRT.  It's not a dangerous arrhythmia but if it becomes more frequent you can consider drug therapy versus an ablation procedure.  The second one is very commonly done and it cures the problem.  Only one can be the main driver and basically, when it's faster than the other it overdrives it, so both never fire at the same time.
