Palpitations, MVP

by Street, Jun 24, 2001 12:00AM
Hi. i'm a 25 year old healthy male. For the past few years i have been experiencing infrequent weird palpitations and skipped beats. Some days i feel irregular heart beats when take a deep breath, but it lasts for a day and then disappears. I have recently been seeing my doctor for stomach problems and my blood pressure is constantly 140,150 and my heart rate is around 100+. It seems to be nerves bacause when i take my pulse rate and bp at home it's around 65 and 120/70. I also exprience arrythmias, but very infrequently. During my last checkup he noticed a tachycardic rate with an irregular rythm and listened to a click. I had an echo which came up negative for Mitral valve prolapse but some mild regurgition was found. the doctor told me not to worry since the machines are so sensitive. My mom has MVP. Should i be concerned about these symptoms? should i do further tests?

thanks.

Dear shane,

Skipped beats are an almost universal finding.  However, some people notice them more than others. Usually they are due to PVCs and PACs.  There are things that can increase them such as caffeine and stress and other things can reduce the frequency.  You doctor can make the diagnosis of PACs and PVCs if this is what you are having.  In general if this is all you are having no further work-up needs to be done.

My presure was about162 over 113 my pulse 116. It took a couple of months to bring the blood pressure down.I am taking prinzide20-25 once a day.
When I wake up in the morning my pulse is 100+. Sometimes 116 or  110 ect. It has remained above 100 since at least January.

I have been having PVC'S and PAC's since I was 27 yrs. old. I may go months and one time I went 3 years without having any.  When they start, they may last 4-5 days.  When they start-I can count on having pale yellow to whitish loose, B.M.'s. and I am clammy and feel as if I have a low-grade fever.  When my bowel problems clear up-so do my heart-skips.  Does anyone have this same problem?  My Doctor just shakes his head when I complain.  I might add, I have had several heart work-ups.  All it shows is skipped beats.  My gastroenterologist is puzzled, also.  Help!!Dondi

I forgot to add, I'm female and I have had my gallbladder removed.  I have trouble digesting anything fatty.  Why would digestive problems cause such strong PVC and PAC's? Hope someone can help! Dondi
