Palpitations

I've been dealing with my heart palpitations on and off for 10 years or so. I've gone to a cardiologist many times and he can't find anything wrong with me. I even had a nuculear stress test to rule out blockages and echo test and was told I had a normal, 40 year old heart.  The doctor said it was PVC's and PAC's which were documents on holter monitor.

It only happens maybe once or twice a day, but it is ungodly scary when it does. Many times positional, like if I bend over too fast, it will go into a funky rhythm that it feels like it's fluttering, followed by an horrid thump, then back to normal. When it beats really fast, it seems like it's not pumping. I'm usually an emotional wreck after it happens.I always panic when it happens. I also read in one post about the monthly hormone factor. I've noticed I get palpitations around my monthly as well. My cardiologist did tell me that the heart and the hormones go hand in hand. I'm am feeling better about but it is a source of anxiety because you worry it will happen again. I've always been a "type a" high anxiety type.

Do you think I really have anything to worry about or am I making a big deal about nothing?  The cardiologist thinks I am crazy and told me not to worry as my heart is normal.  Is this true that most people would get these irregular beats every single day?  I have read many articles that say rare PVC's and PAC's are normal but I just don't know what is considered rare and what is considered a lot.  Sometimes the skips will happen every couple of minutes for a few hours and then go away and I only will get them a couple of times a day and there are so many different feelings  I get with them.  Sometimes a kick from inside the chest, sometimes a distinct stop and a thud sometimes a definate skip, skip, skip.  What is your take on this please?  Thank you so much for your time!!!!

It sounds as if you have a structurally normal heart, and no other obvious cause of your palpitations. Besides thyroid hormone, there is not good evidence about the the effect of other hormones such as estrogen and progesterone and palpitations. Rare PVCs and PACs are not generally a cause for concern. If your  symptoms are not tolerable, your cardiologist can consider a medication such as a beta blocker that could possibly decrease the frequency of your palpitations.
