Palpitations

Have had palpitations for five years now and in the last 1/1/2 years has gotten much worse. Not much help from my different doctors. They have done many tests and said it won't kill me and calcium blocker one cardio prescribed helps sometimes but when I get a bad episode can't do much of anything all day is a ridiculous way to live. Any feed back will be appreciated and I'm 59 yrs. old. And no I'm not a nervous person. Can give more details if needed. Beta blockers don't help either. Any others out there with this particular problem?

Your palps are very common...
There are a couple things that you can do to help yourself.  In my opinion the medications dont usually help, because if they did, you would notice a change... correct?
There are perm solutions you can take. Such as surgery.  Palps are triggered by a little device near your heart that make it skip a beat or speed up.  There is surgery where you can get that little device burned off.  There are some negatives from this surgery, but if they bother you this much.. what could you really loose right?
If you are scared of the surgery, as many are... I would suggest really weird things, but I have come to see that they have helped...
Such as....
Pushing... whenever you get a palp..just push..as if you're about to give birth or take a big poop.
Taking a cold tower and putting it on your head, or just holding it in your hands...
Try and burp...

Try any of these, and if it still doesn't help.. come back.. I might have some other ideas...

It's a really frustrating thing to have I do agree.. it takes control of your life..you're not taking any other medications for anything else..such as migranes... etc?

Sometimes stress is caused in the back of your head, you don't even realize that you're stressed out... alot of the times, this is what's so frustrating about it.

Just know, there are alot of people out there just like you, and this will only get better. L)

I have palps too ! I get the clusters of 2s and 4s.. most times im not lightheaded - but some are !  when I get to the 6s I go to the Doctor or straight to the ER.  as they can help get them stopped. or slowed and they fade off.  I have to say, about anything can trigger palps to happen , stress is one !
pain , anger, depression, gas, sitting wrong, standing, laying on your back or side.. strange things ?
I sometimes get them if b.p spikes up on me.. or from drinking soda pop or coffiee -  yep they are nasty and attack when you least expect them to !  and the more you get upset about them, the worse they get !  My cardiologsit had me on a cal channel blocker at first, but switched me to a beta blocker - the beta blocker helped stop or calm the palps -as I dont feel them or they stopped ..
but do come back time to time.. doctor told me, that there is a new medication that can stop the palps totaly and control them - however the side effects are very bad ,so he kept me off it.

You might try this and see if it helps slow them or stop them !
it works good for me - its called Natural Calm.  power drink  - ( I dont sell it ) but I do use it alot..
I drink 1 table spoon of it ,mixed in hot water.. everyday.. it really helps.. like tea.or hot drink.

p.s  my palps started back in the mid 80s..

take care and good luck .

What did they say when you were at the E.R. is it an arrythmia [hope I spelled that right], or just palpitations? Did they do an EKG?

I'll try some of those things [ tried the bearing down thing before and never helped and used to have SVT problems that would last two hrs and I would have to go to the E.R, but had an ablation in '2005' and haven't had that problem since then, but I now realize I had this problem [palp.] before the ablation and apparently is something else going on with my heart. Because the SVT episodes only came every three to six months don't see how they could be related, I have  [palps] almost every day and it was the same before the ablation, but now are much worse, gets complicated doesn't it!  Don't SVT graphs [printout from a moniter] have a different signiture than a palp.graph? Because my cardio. never said that it might be connected and he knows my history on having had a problem with S.V.T.in the past. Anyone [out there] that has to have an ablation, it's not that bad and I had no complications.

Hi talz, I have them [palp.] every day, two beats come close together and then a pause until the next normal beat and usually nothing again for hrs, but some days every six to eight beats or so it will do it [for ten minutes or so] and unforunately I can feel it everytime I have a missbeat. Most people get palpatations that are hard and fast from fear or whatever and it stops after awhile. No I don't go to the E.R. Today I've only have had two or three single palp.but tomorrow may be dif. Am on cardizem now, but does not always help. Do I ever feel off when I get them, you bet! I can wake up in the morn. and it will be doing it and working around the house or just sitting. Some days when I'm stressed about things then nothing happens all day! Doesn't make sense to me. Standing up fast will trigger it sometimes? My cardio says there isn't anything he can do for it, but I'm not so sure. Hope that helps am frustrated after so many years of this!

There might be quite a bit of questions.. but Ill try and help

How often do you get palpitations?
How long do they usaully last?
Do you go to the ER when you get them? (or have you ever)
Are you currently on any medications?
Do you ever feel a little "off" when you get them?
What usually tiggers them.?  (bending over, leaning, laying down, sitting up)
