Performance

I have a St Jude Verity pacemaker installed since Feb 06. I am 67 and an active jogger and hiker, I find that I have difficulty on relatively steep hikes where I have to slow down and stop at times. On even ground I can go forever. The pacemaker is a dual chamber model. Settings of 55 and 140BPM.however I dont go over 130BPM even on steep hikes. Any suggestions.
Thank you

Pace maker problems
I just had a pacemaker installed 1 week ago, and I thought I would be able to resume normal ambulation (on flat ground). Everytime I have tried sustained walking since then, however, I have experienced a high level of fatigue, even though the rate doesn't go above 88 bpm. What might be causing this?

You could talk to the doctor about raising your upper limit.  That would depend on whether it was set at 140 because of a medical condition or if it was set set at 140 because that is where an 80% increase in your resting rate puts you.  It might also depend on if you have just a pacemaker or if you also have an ICD.

I have an ICD so I never want my heart rate to hit the upper limit.  That doesn't feel too good.  My device does pace at the low end to keep my resting heart rate from going below 40 bpm.

What happens when your heart rate gets to 140 bpm?  I am just curious.  Is it like "hitting the wall" that marathon runners feel or do you get some warning?  I would really like to know.
