Pericarditis and hydration overload

Pericarditis and hydration overload

My husband recently had surgery for pericarditis. Previous to this, he had been receiving hydration fluids at the
rate of 250 ML per hour over a 4 hour period, totaling 1,000 Ml per day for one full month.  He does suffer from non small cell lung cancer.  Was this hydration given much too quickly?  Wouldn"t hydration overload cause pericarditis?

Dear Kathleen,

In fact, hydration would likely prevent pericarditis and reduce his risk of having problems from an effusion that might develope because of the pericarditis.
