Pericarditis

by Maureenbr, Jan 17, 2008 05:36PM
My son had pericarditis, a complication of chicken pox, at 16. He is now 18 and still experiencing the same pain occasionally, usually when run down or sick. He no longer has a cardiologist because he is too old for the Children's Hospital. He has no regular doctor who is familiar with his history because he has moved to go to university. My questions are; "How serious is the recurring pain? Should he be under care for it? Can pericarditis be a chronic condition or has his treatment been unsuccessful to date? Could the pain be a symptom of contrictive pericarditis or something else more serious? Should he be playing basketball?" Thanks, M.
