Plauqe

Dear Doctor,
I recieved my result of my Carotid Artery Doppler test today. It showed that I had "minimal plauque". I asked the doctor a % and he said under 20 % to 30%. I am quitting smoking pronto!
My questions:
1.Is this rare in a female of 30 years old?
2.Can I reduce this type of plaque myself and say lower the percentage of plaque?
3. Is this life threatening at this point?
I just wanted a opinion on these 3 questions
as I am VERY worried. Thank you.

Congratulations on quitting smoking.  This is the single best thing you can do for your health and to prevent this from progressing.  It is less common for young women to develop plaque but it can happen, particularly in smokers.  It may be possible to reduce or "stabilize" the plaque with diet and lifestyle changes and it is probably not "life threatening" at this point.

Thanks for replying. I weigh 130  and my cholesterol is not high. So I am thinking it was my smoking that caused this. I am hoping that quitting smoking will lower the plauqe.
So reducing what you already have in there can be done right?
Thank you.
