Pneumonia after bypass surgery

DWK
My husband had emergency bypass surgery four days ago and his heart is now OK but they say he's developed pneumonia. I'm EXTREMELY scared about this! What should he/we do? We are not in the States now so it's important I get good guidance to deal with this in a developing country. Any PARTICULAR drug he should take for this? What can I do for him? Help!

In usual cases of pneumonia, oxygen level in the blood is severely restricted and it takes a pressure breathing apparatus to force enriched air into the lungs (life support). Just using an oxygen mask for example would be a very mild form. The key is for the mucus to be cultured to see if it contains anything such as a bacteria or virus, then the appropriate antibiotics can be administered if necessary.

Hi, it's been 4 and a half weeks since my dads triple bypass surgery. The incision healed fine , but he had developed a cough 2 weeks after surgery. He is coughing up clear foamy mucus. And he has pain in his belly when taking in deep breaths. He is almost 66 years of age. We are going for a chest xray. Could this be pneumonia? His temperate was 37. 2 last time I checked. Thanks

Please get  him on antibiotics right waway. Tetracyhcline, ampicillan etc. will work rapidly and he will feel much better shortly. Bacterial pneumonia is common after any trauma to the chest, as the lungs canot move properly due to the trauma, and fluid  develpos which is breeding grond for bacteria.  Don't worry, he will get OK
