Possible Angina?

by Kiwi01, Sep 20, 2000 12:00AM
I have a pain that the doctors are trying to figure out whether it is angina or something like tendonitis.  I have had bypass surgery in the last year.  The pain is most pronounced in the morning walking 1 block to work.  The pain is in the right elbow area or upper arm.  I get the pain in the elbow or arm at other times when walking but it is generally not as severe as in the morning.  I can also get the pain at rest from time to time.  My cardiologist has offered an angiogram although he feels it will not show anything.  I have been avoiding an angiogram, especially if he feels the pain is not angina.  Are there good alternative tests you would recommend?  What are other possible causes for this pain that might be considered?  I have written you before about this or a related problem and appreciate your help.  Thank you.

An angiogram would rule out coronary artery disease as the cause of your pain. A noninvasive option would be to perform a stress test and see if it is abnormal and also whether it reproduces your symptoms. Arthritis and tendonitis are other possibilities.
