Possible heart attack

I waited two weeks after a possible heart attack to see my regular doctor  He said my EKG showed a heart attack and sent me to cardiologist. The cardiologist says the EKG is abnormal but that doesn't mean I had heart attack and because I have GERD that might be causing my pain and nausea. He gave me an ultrasound and sent me home until I can have a nuclear stress test. But I'm still having a slight pain in my chest. Thoughts?

An electrocardiogram or EKG measures the electrical activity by of the heart. A old heart attack can change the way in which heart muscle cells depolarize, and this change can be detected by an EKG. Findings suggestive of an old heart attack are not always specific, and additional testing such as an echocardiogram or a stress test can be very helpful. The ultrasound you mention in your question may have been in echocardiogram, which can look closely at the struction and function of the heart. It is not possible to really comment on the pain that you are experiencing, without you providing much more details. I think the best plan, from what you describe, would be to follow up with your doctor and have the nuclear stress test. This test would be able to identify areas of your heart that may be scarred from a prior heart attack or areas that do not receive an adequate blood supply when stressed.
