Post Heart Ablation Pressure Pain

Hi everyone,
My name is Liz and I had a Catheter Ablation performed on me 18 months ago for severe SVT's. Right after the procedure I started to experience pressure and tightness in my chest. It was not a pain but more or less pressure. For example, it felt like someone was strangling my chest or putting a rubber band on it. The doctor told me that it was nothing and it would subside within a couple of months. Since then, I have been experiencing this same chest problem. I have been back to my doctor a ample amount of times and he said everything was okay. I even got a second opinion from several of other physicians. All of them never heard of this complication and say that I should go on anit-depressants. I have no more SVT's which I guess is a good thing but in retrospect I feel worse in the fact of my chest problems. I would have understood if the pain went away 2-3 months after the procedure, but it has been over 18 months and I am still getting the chest pressure. I do not know if anyone has experienced this same problem but I am becoming very anxious. I hope someone can help assist in my problem and give me some advice. Thank you for your time.

Hey guys thanks for the concern. I am new to this website so I do not know all of its functions yet. I have had my lungs checked. I have worn a monitor. It happens on a day to day basis. I am not sure what triggers it or anything like that. I work everyday and I am active but I do not run or exercise frequently. I never had this feeling before the ablation, it happened right after I woke up from it and has been bothering me ever since. Hopefully someone can find the answer so I can get some help. Once again thanks for the advice

I promise I won't scream. Aaaargh. Oops, sorry.

So you have a symptom of chest pressure, your SVT is cleared up which makes you happy and the doctors just want to put you on anti-D's? That's not an answer. Have they checked your lungs? Have they done an echo on your heart to make sure there's no pericardial problems? Have you worn a monitor to record heart activity when your chest feels bad?  How often does this happen? Is it all the time or just after certain activities?

If you haven't already, try making a list of when it happens and if you sense any link to something else. This isn't a typical after effect of an ablation (I've had 3) so it may not be heart related. But it's not a normal feeling either. I do hope someone can find the answer.

Hi Liz,
You might want to post in the Heart Rhythm forum as well to get more answers to your question.  Many people over there have had ablations (including me) and may have some input for you.  Sorry I do not have an answer.
