Thank you very much for your reply, I'm sure he will find your information helpful. He hasn't lost his sence of smell but everything smell like the hospital!
Thank you once again. Scary when it's the first time (and hopefully the last) and don't know much.
My mom AND my mother-in-law lost their tastes after surgery, but it did return. In fact, now my mom can eat things she used to not eat before her surgery!
Thank you for your reply. All the comments are really encouraging. He is greatfull for people taking time to reply to what seems a minor thing when you read other questions etc. Best wishes and good luck to your mum. I hope things aren't as bad as they sound.
the nurses suggested giving my mom Italian Ices. Seemed they would clean the palette and help the appetite. So I froze fresh juice and mushed it thinking homemade would be healthier than store bought.
Lets hope the taste returns...I was one of the lucky ones, I lost my taste for cigarettes and of all things eggs, that I love...Been 3 years now and unless someone else cooks the eggs, I cannot eat them cause of the smell....Just time and patience and eat what does taste good....PLT
He will do fine I was back to work after 6 weeks. The taste comes back, and with exercise so will the appetite. For me although things tasted funny the actual problem was more I wasnt doing anything the first few weeks and because of that nothing sounded good to eat.
Now that I think on it, I lost my sense of smell, too, after the surgery. And that really hasn't returned.
Thank you once again. Scary when it's the first time (and hopefully the last) and don't know much.
