Pregnancy, Cytomel, and Irregular Heartbeat

by surt, May 31, 2009 03:44PM
Hello.
I am 31 weeks pregnant with my first child.  I was diagnosed with a mitral value prolapse at 17 following a full cardiac arrest attributed to severe dehydration and heat exhaustion.  However, since that time, I have had no significant heart problems.  Last week I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (high TSH and low free T3).  The OB put me on 5 mcg of generic Cytomel.

Today in my vigorous prenatal yoga class, I felt an arrythmia, became very sweaty and hot, and was nauseated.  I suspect the Cytomel and pregnancy coupled with intense exercise were too much.  I took it easier and the symptoms dissipated.  However, I am very concerned I hurt the baby.  I have had irregular heartbeats before and during pregnancy, which I assume is related to the MVP, but this episode was much more severe.  Could an event like this have harmed the baby?

Thank you for addressing this question.
