Pregnancy and High blood pressure medication

Pregnancy and High blood pressure medication

I am currently taking 50mg of atenenol for the treatment of high blood pressure and have been for the past 3 years.  My blood pressure is now under control with exercise, diet and medication.  My husband and I want to start trying for a baby but there are many articles that say that atenol is not safe to take while pregnant.  My doctor says it's ok but I don't feel certain what is your opinion?

Thanks
Cassie

I am in your boat.  I know last time I was pregnant I took metaprolol and it worked.  Let me know what you find out.  I actually have a call into my doc to see what he says.  If I find out I will let you know.

It's a risk versus benefit issue.  Some beta blockers are pretty safe during pregnancy.  If your obstetrician feels it is safe, rest easy.  I know there are lots of women who take your medication during pregnancy with no problems.
