Prescribed Medications - Aortic Valve Stenosis/Regurgitation

I relocated to a new area meaning I have a new Cardiologist that I am seeing for my condition.  I am a 35 yo white male and have a bicuspid aortic valve with mild aortic stenosis and with moderate to severe regurgitation.  I have no symptoms.  Last stress echo was completely normal.  I went to a HR of 200bpm and and the test show no signs of dilation or any other signs.  My cardio prescribed me 2 meds: altace and lipitor. She explains that there are clinicla studies showing these slow down the progression of my disease.  I am just curious as to your thoughts on this.  I have borderline high bp but my cholesterol is normal.....

Lipitor is a medication which is studied well in patients like yourself and has showen prevention of pregression of disease. I am not aware of any trials relating altace to decreased progression of aortic insuficiency, but Procadia XL has been studied in patients with asymptomatic severe aortic insuficiency and has shown decrease progression ( need for aortic valve surgery.) This is especially true in patients with hypertension.
