Prilosec versus Plavix

Prilosec versus Plavix

Is there any problems with taking Plavix 75mg and Prilosec at the same time? My cardiologist has recommended that I take both for the rest of my life. I have recently heard on TV that there may be a problem with Plavix results if taken with Prilosec...is this true and if so, what questions should I ask my cardiologist? I have no symptoms that would indicate that I have a problem with taking both...but, I am curious as to why this has been mentioned on Plavix TV advertising. Also, is it okay to substitute a generic for Lipitor 40mg?

They are two different drugs to treat 2 different problems.  If one person out of a million suffers an adverse reaction while taking these two meds at the same time, the drug maker has to mention it as a warning.  I do understand your concern, and would phone your cardiologist and tell him of your concerns. Since you are not having any problems with taking the 2, I feel you will be fine.  On one hand I'm happy that we have access to so much information, but at the same time, this information can scare us to death and keep us from taking any drug.  We are such a litiguous nation that everyone has to cover their butts in every way, to keep from being sued.  As for the generic Lipitor, I would call your pharmacist about this, they have always been my best reference.  I use all generics with good results and no problems.  I was even taking a generic medication for my thyroid thru my GP, and when I returned to my Endocrinologist she said they would never prescribe the generic for this because it isn't as effective.  She said any other generic is fine but not for the thyroid.  I thought I would have a problem since I'd been on the generic for 2 years, but my numbers are still good, which proves the generic worked very well.
