Protein Therapy for Myocardial Ischemia

by Evon__0, Jul 23, 1998 12:00AM

Is the Cleveland Clinic currently participating in research with FGF-1, the genetically engineered growth factor used to treat myocardial ischemia?
If so, are they involved in a clinical trial and who would be the physician most familiar with this project?

by CCF CARDIO MD APS, Jul 23, 1998 12:00AM

Dear Evon,
Dr. S. Ellis is the cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic who is head of the
cardiac catheterization lab and is the physician in charge of the clinical trial
that is currently enrolling patients for end-stage myocardial ischemia treatments.
The protein being used in the trial is vascular derived growth factor (VGEF).
Dr. Ellis can be reached at 1-800-CCF-CARE for further information on this trial.
If I find any centers that are studying FGF in clinical trials for ischemia, I will
re-submit an answer to this question.  As you may already know these latest treatments
are reserved for those patients in which no conventional therapy is possible for
a multitude of reasons.  Good Luck.
