I will have another followup in June 1999.
I have read many of your postings on this subject and, as I suspected, the choice of institutions, hence doctors, is crucial.
My questions are simple...are there lengthy waits before gaining admittance to the Cleveland Clinic? Are there
livingAdvanced care directives facilities convenient to the center for family members? How long would a patient be expected to remain in the vicenity of the Clinic after surgery?
Thanks for your webpage and (hopefully) your response.
Dear Gene, thank you for your question. It doesn't sound like you need an aortic valve replacement at this point. However, if you would like to have surgery here at Cleveland Clinic when it becomes necessary, we would be happy to facilitate that for you. Generally, you can get an elective outpatient appointment here within a month and elective surgery usually has a 2 - 4 week waiting time. We have two hotels immediately next door to our hospital where families usually stay and the accommodations are nice. Generally, the post-operative stay is 5 - 7 days after aortic valve replacement and we ask out-of-town patients to wait 1 - 2 days after discharge before returning home.
