:NutraSweet and other dietary sugar replacements can have an effect on heart rhythm. I am proof positive.  I noticed this about a year ago after having read an article on the subject, and then experimenting on my own.  Between a half hour and an hour after a dose of the chemical (in low cal beverages) my heart rate increases and PVCs begin. Upon certain other activities in conjunction with the aspartame, such as bending over, strenuous lifting, even just walking up stairs, triggers a-fib.  If I leave the stuff alone, a-fib and the rest are far less frequent.
Try for yourself.
