Taking your carotid pulse at, say, 120. I'm worried that the
AtenololAtenolol
Atenolol-chlorthalidone will effect my heart rate increase due to exercise. In other words the Atenolol will prevent a normal increase in rate. Should I be concerned.
PS: my BP in normal, I have no other medical problems etc
Doug,
I am on a beta-blocker as well and have wondered that same thing. I was told by a personal trainer that my doctor should gie me a target heart rate. The stuff I have read states the normal target heart rate calculation (220-age) and a percentage of that to find your target rate (i.e. 70%) should not be used for people on beta-blockers because they do affect your heart rate. I will be curious to see what the CCF doctor has to say about this. I had my cardiologist help me determine my heart rate though. I go on how I feel while exercising. Sometimes I can keep me heart in a range (lets say 120) and feel fine and another day I will be in that same range and feel a little tired. We feel different each day, so be comfortable with whatever heart rate your doing!
Good luck!
Denise
