I am 33 years old and have been on Sectrol for almost two years now, due to neurocardiogenic syncopi.  I consulted a Perinatalogist at the beginning of my pregnancy and was told that the medication had NO contraindications in pregnancy and that there was no reason for me to stop taking it, even on a trial basis.
However, the last time I picked up my prescription, I noticed the attachment on the package said "Do not Breast-Feed while taking this medication".  I can't imagine not breast feeding (#1) and if it's bad for a baby once born, why isn't it bad for a baby "in utero"?
I will meet with my Electrophysiology Cardiologist next month and will discuss this again with her (I have a Pacemaker too, but it's been turned off since the beta blockers work), but I would really welcome some additional input on the subject.
Thank you very much,
Debbie

Hi,
Please Consider calling your Local La Leche League Leader. They have medical liasons they can contact regarding certain meds. I was on meds during my PG and was also told I couldn't breastfeed. (I breastfed my first for an extended time)
They were a huge help. Their are only a few meds that really pose a risk. Feel free to e-mail me. I can't remeber the name of the doctor offhand but their is a fantastic reference books regarding meds and breastfeeding that I wa sable to get lots and lots of info from. I will look up his name. I know he is considered one of the leading experts on breastfeeding in this country!!!
Definately do youe homework on this one. I was told by 2 physicians, bith my family doctor and my specialist. I found a family doctor compatible with the information I gained and I am still nursing my 11 month old son!!
Robyn
