The situation should improve if the medications convert you back to a normal heart rate. It may be worth another try of the electrical cardioversion on the current set of medications. If that does not work, consultation with a cardiac electrophysiologist may be in order.pI hope this has been useful. Feel free to write back with further questions. Good luck.pInformation provided here is of a general nature.  Specific diagnoses and treatments can only be made by your doctor.  If you would like to be seen at the Cleveland Clinic, please call 1-800-CCF-CARE for an appointment with a cardiologist at Desk F15.pbrPPHR WIDTH=75% SIZE=4 COLOR=#000090

My answer here was I should feel better if my medication helps tha atrial fibrilation. The thing is the surgeon inserted a pacemaker and a week later my heart went out of rythm... How can a Electrophysiologist help me?? Is it possible to have the heart shocked with the pacemaker or ndo they disconnect it to do that??  Thank you IVA

Iva,
Atenelol is a drug called a Beta blocker.  I have used that drug for irregular heartbeat and it made me tired all of the time.  However,  It also stopped the irregularities so on balance was very beneficial.  Besides the pacemakers there is a device that can be implanted which can both pace and do cardioversion.  It is usually only put into folks who have life threatening irreglarities in their heart rhythm.  A visit to an electro-physiologist would help decide whether you fit into that category.  Be prepared for a load of testing.
