I wrote a while back about my 7 year old daughter who has dilated cardiomyopathy.  Thank you so much for the information you sent.  We now have developed another problem.  She has had chest pain for about 2 years at different times.  The most severe has been during the night.  We finally had a treadmill test and a test that increased her heart rate with meds.  During both test, her ST waves, I think, became inverted and she developed severe chest pain but her echo showed her function remained basically the same.  She also had a heart cath and her arteries were okay.  They explained that they thought that her blood vessels were constricting with exercise and they put her on a new med (diltiazem) 30 mg three times a day.  She still takes 7.5 mg of accupril and 2cc of lanoxin twice a day.  My question is "What do you think is going on with her and is it serious?"  Also, does your clinic handle peds cases? Thanks

Dear Bonnie,
I must say that there are few possible explanations of your child's pain, one being the spasm constriction
theory and another is pain coming from strain on the already dilated walls with exercise.   I can not possibly
comment further or more specifically than this as the forum is not intended for diagnosis, treatment, or any
evaluation of a condition even with signs and symptoms reported.  This is an informational forum only, and yes the
Cleveland Clinic has a children's hospital with many specialists(mostly pediatric cardiologists)who deal every
day with abnormalities of the heart structure as well as the symptoms these children expeience.  If you did not receive
the number to call last time, it is 1-800-CCF-CARE; ask for an appointment with
one of the pediatric cardiologists.  Good Luck.
