: I am 19 years old, in fairly good shape, don't smoke, and have been having

: I get a crushing chest pain when I inhale and it will last a few hours and
: then completely subside. I haven't been worried about it until now because
: I have never had any medical problems before, but it lasted almost an entire

Dear Jessica
I am not sure what it is. The next time it occurs give your doctor a call that same day. Do you have any family history of heart disease or clotting disorders? Are you on any medications (including birth control pills)?

Dear Jessica
I think your doctor ought to look into the cause of your symptoms. Age 40 is quite young for a heart attack, even for a smoker - therefore, you do have a family history of early heart disease. Birth control pills can increase your chances of forming blood clots in places such as the lungs - that is why I asked. You should mention all this to your doctor during your evaluation.
