If the heart muscle does not have pain nerves, why does a patient having a
heart attack have chest pain and/or pain radiating up the left arm?
Thank you.

Dear Paula
The heart muscle does indeed have nerves that sense pain. Bundles of nerves travel together in the body; sometimes, this confuses the brain and it thinks pain from heart muscles is coming from the arm (or neck or jaw).
