I have been referred to a cardiologist with a view to implanting a defib. I have a long history of cardiac disease - heart attacks CABG and have experienced bursts VT and palpitations since the op. I have been taking beta blockers for 5 years and have had enough of the side effects! hence the alternatives. What I would like to know is a lot more information about the implant. Is there a web site I can go to? I am 48.

Dear Colin,
Internal Cardiac Defibrillators are devices similar to pacemakers and currently only slightly bigger in size that both monitor and defibrillate the heart as appropriate. They are well tolerated and can be put in with only a minimal hospital stay.
You may want to check the heart center home page for further information. At CCF we have a tremendous experience with these devices and it is not uncommon for people following CABG or with significant CAD particularly in association with a decrease in pump function to have these devices implanted.
