I was diagnosed with MVP years ago.  Recently I have been experiencing spells of dizziness.  They usually occur when I arise from a laying position or from a crouching position.  I have always been very careful when I get up from a laying position because I do get dizzy.  However, lately, no matter how slowly I arise, I get dizzy, see light spots and feel like I am going to pass out.  I was at an event this weekend, we were constructing cardboard boats for a race, and I became extremely dizzy again.  All I was doing was bending over.  Why am I experiencing these spells?  Is it attributed to the MVP?

Dear SAH, thank you for  your question.  I doubt the MVP is causing your symptoms.  You may have a disorder of blood pressure regulation based on your body's position.  I suggest that you see your physician and have your blood pressure checked lying down and then immediately after standing (so-called orthostatic blood pressure check).  If your BP does fall significantly with standing up, then you may need to have further tests done.
I hope you find this information useful.  Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only.  Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to write back with additional questions.  Good luck.

Would this also occur when I am standing?  There are times that I have to stand for long periods, and I will have an onset of dizziness.  Most of the time it is when I go from laying to standing.  And what kind of further testing would be involved if what you say is found?

I sort of forgot a question, which is sort of unrelated.  Can I scuba dive with MVP?  Is it safe?

Dear SAH, you should have no problems scuba diving with MVP.

Dear MTR,
Thank you for the information.  I know I have more questions, but I cannot think of them at this moment.  Thank you for having this place, a few of my fears have been settled here.  Thanks again!
