Re: ECG reading

by William, Jul 19, 2000 12:00AM
I have Bradycardia & sick sinus syndrom (syndrome) and have a Pacemaker.
My last readings on my ECG on the AXIS were P-48, QRS -28, & T-31. What is the meaning of the minus readings? What is a normal range for each of these?
Many thanks in anticipation for your response.
WM.

Dear William,
The axis on an ECG refers to the 'vector' of the electrical signal.  The vector is the direction the current is traveling through the heart.  The direction is divded into 360 degrees with the 'top' 180 degrees being negative and the 'bottom' 180 degrees being positive.  Normal range for the P wave vector is between 0 and +75 degrees, for the QRS between -30 and +105 and for the T wave between -30 and +90.  Variation outside of normal can mean many different things and is somewhat outside the scope of this forum.  In general however slight variations outside of normal are benign.
