I have a high blood pressure problem and am taking medication on as required basis.  In the past two weeks, my blood pressure started to fluctuate.  In one day, sometimes it is high or extremely low.  Why am I experiencing such low low pressures even though I have chronic high blood pressure problem?
Thanks

Dear Cindy, thank you for your question.  The normal response for blood pressure is to fluctuate according to what activities you are involved in and what time of day it is.  This occurs for people with normal blood pressure and for people with high blood pressure.  Generally, we try to keep the blood pressure below 130/80 with medications.  However, if you blood pressure is consistently above this level or if it is consistently below 100/60, then you should contact your physician.   Without knowing your specific blood pressure measurements, I can't comment on whether your blood pressures are indeed low.  Perhaps you could write back with additional information.
I hope you find this information useful.  Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only.  Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to write back with additional questions.
