I have recently been diagnosed as having premature atrial contractions.  I have been having them very steadily for the past week.  My cardiologist put me on Atenolol, but it is not instantly working.  Does anyone know how long it takes to receive the full benefit of beta blockers?  PAC's are very uncomfortable, and are actually painful at times.  Is there anyone else that experiences pain with PAC's?  Thanks.

Dear Aaron
It should kick in completely in a few days at most. I have had some patients describe PACs as painful, but it is very unusual to be that aware of them.
I hope this has been useful. Feel free to write back with further questions. Good luck.
