I have high blood pressure, am taking trandolapril 4mg, it has come down a lot, but every time I
have my blood pressure taken it hurts...a lot.The last time I had it taken at the hospital thay used
some kind of automatic machine. It was all I could do not to rip the thing off! Then a few hours the
musels(SP) in my arm were as hard as a rock and hurt, what causes this?

Dear Sandie:
The automated blood pressure cuff can sometimes have difficulty picking up a signal, in which case it keeps pumping the cuff to higher and higher pressures.  Ask your doctor or nurse to check your blood pressure with a manual device [the old-fashioned way].  This method should be less painful.  If you find that you are still experiencing a lot of pain, mention it to your doctor.  You may have tender muscles for some medical reason that needs to be investigated.  Alternatively, you may just be very sensitive to the blood pressure cuff.
Information provided here is of a general nature.  Specific diagnoses and treatments can only be made by your doctor.  If you would like to be seen at the Cleveland Clinic, please call 1-800-CCF-CARE for an appointment with a cardiologist at Desk F15
