I had
mitralMitral regurgitation - chronic
Mitral stenosis
Mitral valve prolapse valve repair surgery on 5/17. My BP remained
normalNormal saline flush through the entire
recoveryRecovery position - series, but recently has increased dramatically. My cardiologist has started me on
Cozaar and
AtenololAtenolol
Atenolol-chlorthalidone to
controlControl
Control rx it. Are changes in BP related to the surgery? I had severe regurg and moderate dilation of the left atrium and ventrical prior to surgery...I now have normal sized chambers and only trivial regurg. What's going on?

I suppose it is possible that now that your heart is not pumping blood "backwards" through a leaky valve it has more "energy" to generate a higher blood pressure. There are not really any studies that document surgery as a cause of increased blood pressure. I think your doctor is treating appropriately and I would continue this course of action.
