Dear doctor,
After reading another questions regarding magnesium and potassium supplements to help with PVC's, I have a question to ask you.  If indeed you had a blood test and tested low in magnesium and are taking a 200mg over the counter supplement to help (which it does) reduce the PVCs, am I still at risk for hyperplakia and the other problems you described?  My magnesium level was 1.3 which was considered low.  But, I have not had it checked since starting the supplement.  Should I?  Thank you for your response.

Dear Kelsey,
Firstly, I am not the physician who answered your first question, however I can say that:
1) too much of anything is NOT a good thing, although the FDA does study supplement amounts that are safe, hence I would follow at least their guidelines.
2) if you started the supplements because your level read 1.3, there really is no way to know if it is making a difference in the level unless you get it checked again,
HOWEVER if you are taking the supplement at FDA doses or less (i.e. safely) and it affords you relief, who cares what the level is?
I hope you find this information useful. Information provided in the heart forum is for general
purposes only. Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to
write back with additional questions. Good luck.
