Hi I hope you can help me. For some time now i have had problems with chest pain. I have been to the ER and everywhere inbetween and was always told the same thing A typical chest pain and was told ro learn to live with it.I wasnt happy with the results but i accepted it. I finally talked my doctor into sending me for a echo and all that was found with this test was Mild Mitral Valve Regurgitation.
Now here is my question.....Since a little while before the chest pain I have been having a problem with my left arm. From the shoulder , arm pit down to usualy my elbo my arm goes really weak sometimes my fingers will tingle. It feels almost the way a chlds leg feels at night when they are told they have growing pains. I was realy consernd for a while because some times this would happen as i was having the chest pain wich immedeatly made me think i was having a heart attack.
Since i was going to the doctor with this chest pain that he has no answer for I guess he thinks its in my head..he now does not take my complaint of my arm seriously. I will admit that the chest pain has turned me into a slight hypochondriac but that was only because they could not find a reason for the pain. But i do know my own body and i know when something doesnt feel right. Do you have any ideas or suggestion? ny help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Dear Sandy,
Seek the opinion of a cardiologist and if s/he believes not to be chest and arm pain of a cardiac origin (either with a history and physical exam alone or with a stress test in addition) then seek the opinion of a GI specialist or a general internist who is willing to get to the bottom of things so to speak.
Your symptoms can easily be GI related (i.e. from reflux esophagitis or gastritis, etc.)
I hope this information is useful. Information provided in the heart forum is for
general purposes only.  Only your physician can provided specific diagnoses and therapies.
Feel free to write back with further questions. Good luck!
If you would like to make an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center, please
