<Bill, I've been taking 50 mg of atenolol for about 5 years now, and have never experienced any of the problems you are experiencing.  I am sluggish a lot, but that's just the way I am anyway.  I do get depressed easily.  Before I started on the meds, I had anxiety attacks about my health...every once in awhile, now, I'll have an irregular heart rhythm, which will shake me up a little, but for me, this medicine has worked wonders.  No more sleepless nights on the couch.  If you feel insecure about the medicine, go back to your physician.  You will feel more confident that you are being taken care of.
