Hi Cheryl...I had an ablation for SVT 3 yrs ago.  I had the sudden onset of rapid heart beats also but they often ranged at 325-350.  I would never know when they would start.  I think mine were effected by the extreme stress I was in during that time.  A number of times the ER had to stop and start my heart with an IV drug push.  This was not comfortable at all.  So b4 you get to where I was go in for the cardiac ablation.  The will do an EP study b4 the ablation to make sure that is the problem, so don't worry too much.  It is really good that they were able to track the SVT with a monitor without you having to go through many tests.  Feel free to contact me if you would like any other patient to patient information.  I will pray for you Tuesday.  I am sure that you wil do fine.  Good Luck!  Nancy T.
Hello...
I've been recently diagnosed with SVT and am scheduled for a catheter ablation on Tue. I wore an event moniter which clocked my heart at 200-250bpm...this usually lasts for an average of 60-90 minutes, about once a week...have had this for about 6 years, but in the last year, they've become more frequent and exhausting.
My questions are.....the first Cardiologist was pretty adament about this being a life threatening condition...the second one was much more nonchalant about it, however, he insisted if it lasted more than 15 minutes to go to ER. CAN the heart go into cardiac arrest from rates of 200-250bpm IF it lasts for extended periods of time??
Also, I've seen references to Tachycardia being caused by panic attacks (which I don't really feel I have)Can SVT be diagnosed by event moniters alone?? I really would hate to go through the ablation only to find there is no extra pathway.
Thanks......Cheryl
