Hi,
What a wonderful service you have. Thank you! My question is tachycardia dangerous while pregnant? My daughter is 28 and very healthy, exercises, eats healthy and is 18 weeks pregnant. She recently started having tachycardia of up to 124bpm, this seems to last on and off all day. She went to a cardiolgist and had all test run and everything is normal. The doctor tells her this fast rate is due to her pregnancy and all is fine. Question, is this something that normally happens while pregnant and how long does this last? Could there be complications with the fetus and is there medicine to control it that will not harm the fetus. I think the doctor said it was the atrial not the ventrical that was the origin of the problem.
Thank you,
Betty

Dear Betty,
Thank you for your question.  Pregnancy results in many hemodynamic changes and an elevated heart rate is normal.  It generally is more pronounced during the early part of the pregnancy but may last the whole term. There is no harm from this to mother or fetus.  There is no need to take medications for sinus tachycardia.
