My mother is scheduled for a single by-pass and valve replacement surgery in two weeks....She is deliberating over what type of valve to go with. She is a healthy 69 year old, non-smoker, non-drinker. She is leaning towards getting a mechanical valve....Does anyone have any advice or experience to help in this decision? Thank you.
Don, I am a 44 year old male, and I am scheduled to have my
aorticAbdominal aortic aneurysm

Aortic insufficiency
Aortic rupture, chest x-ray
Aortic stenosis

Thoracic aortic aneurysm valve replaced on March 8th. I am going with a mechanical valve....I hope that it is the only one that I have to have in my lifetime. Best of luck to your mom.

Dear Herb,
Thanks for using the Heart Forum and for sharing your experience with Don, yours is a great attitude especially considering that many
patients want not to have to take
coumadin every day, but as you say, it is most likely the only valve you will ever need. Good Luck in surgery and
recoveryRecovery position - series.
