I have searched all the websites that you have suggested on Warfarin and Coumidin, but I couldn't find an answer to this question. I am currently taking Warfarin for atrial fib. and have been taking it for less than year. I have red dots all over my lower legs that came on after taking this medication. My doctor confirmed that it is from taking blood thinners. Now I am starting to get them on my chest and breasts. I was wondering if this is anything to worry about.
I was also wondering how many times the maze procedure has been performed at the Cleveland Clinic and what the success rate is.
Thanks so much for your help,
Peggy

Dear Peggy, thank you for your question.  The red dots you are finding are most likely related to the coumadin and I think you should speak with your physician again about the significance of this finding.  Dr. Patrick McCarthy is the cardiac surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic who performs the Maze Procedure here.  For information about our results with this procedure, call the number listed below and ask for his office.
I hope you find this information useful.  Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only.  Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to write back with additional questions.  Good luck.
If you would like to make an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center, please call 1-800-CCF-CARE or inquire online by using the Heart Center website at www.ccf.org/heartcenter.   The Heart Center website contains a directory of the card

Cardio MD,
I just wanted to thank you for your advice and to let you know that I really appreciate the Heart Forum. I called after reading your message and made a doctor's appointment for next week.
I also wanted to thank everyone else for their input. It is nice to know there are other people like me out there.
Todd: I am a high-risk atrial fib patient because I have a severly enlarged heart. I am on Warfarin and asprin both.
Lisa: I have a PT test every other week, and my level is 2.3. I am told that it can be 2.0 to 3.0. I am assuming that is what you meant by being within range.
Thanks to all
Peggy
