I have had heart palpitations last up to seven hours long. I was told that this was not a palpitation. If not then what is it and the next time it happens should I call the paramedics. I get short of breath and my heart races so fast it feels like it will come out of my chest. Can drinking be a factor for this also.

From what you've told me I'm not sure I can really comment.  Who told you it wasn't a palpitation and what did they base this on?  There are many other causes of chest discomfort including GI, panic attack, lung, etc.  Alcohol certainly can make all of these type of things including palpitations worse.
