I have just been diagnosed with SVT  (i have yet to find out what kind) and I have two questions.
first,  had pupura as an infant...did it cause the SVT.. How can I find that out?
Second,  I take ritalin (one 20 mg sustained release every morning before I teach school)
I never have an event when I take the ritalin... do you think I'll have to stop taking it?
That would be awful as i find it very helpful.  Thanks...Joyce

Dear Joyce
The purpura did not cause the SVT.
The class of medicines that Ritalin belongs to can definitely cause or contribute to SVT. However, you should check with your doctor before stopping any medicine.
I hope this is useful. Feel free to write back. I wish you the best of luck.
If you would like to set up an appointment with one of our cardiologists here at the Cleveland Clinic please feel free to call 1-800-CCF-CARE.
