Reliability of ultrasound

Reliability of ultrasound

Hi.  I'm just writing to get a second opinion to fully reassure myself about ultrasound results.  A few weeks ago I developed a pounding in my upper stomach which I could feel inside and outside.  My dr. said it felt like "hiccups" and it was blood moving through my aorta.  Pulse was 112.  At the same time I got a scan of my thyroid and it was determined that I have Graves.   I also have a history of very hypermobile joints and diagnoses such as HMS/EDS/ and Marfans have come up in the past.  Well the ultrasound of my aorta came back fine.  I am 99% reassured that all is okay.  I'd just like to hear someone elses opinion.  Is an ultrasound reliable and can Graves disease cause the aorta to thump around like that?  Thank you.

Ultrasound is a good test to evaluate the aorta, especially in people who may have Marfan's. Graves disease likely accounts for the fast heart rate and the thumping.
