Results of echo

Results of echo

I recently had an echocardiogram.  The conclusions from the cardiologist report are left ventricular hypertrophy with ejection fraction of 75%.  Evidence of early diastolic function.  Trace mitral and tricuspid regurgitation.  I am age 60.  I would appreciate some feedback on this.  I have high blood pressure and take Lotrel and hydrochlorthiazide..  I am considering a beta blocker if the doctor insists.  The cardiologist told me the results were not bad, but heart is slightly stiff.  I know that is diastolic dysfunction.  Are there meds for that condition?

The pharmacologic therapies of choice for diastolic heart failure are angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, diuretics, and beta blockers.

Trace, mild, wtc. valve leakage is considered medically insignificant and usually does not progress nor cause symptoms.

Hi . I am a 155 year old girl and I also have hypertension. I have had it for 5 years now. On my last visit to the cardiologist, he told me I had mild left ventricular hypertrophy and I already knew I had mild mitral valve regurgiation. I also have en ejection fraction 75%. Although I do not have evidence of diastolic dysunction. But I have had an echo in  a year so I really dont know. I take beta-blockers. It is called Atenolol or Tenormin.  I recommend the beta-blocker as it reduces the workload on the heart while reducing blood pressure which is actually what causes the LVH. Once hypertension is controlled, your LVH will stabalize and maybe the diaastolic dysfunction will even improve. Ofcourse, only your doctor knows whats best for your body. Hope you get better!

Thankyou for your response.  I know beta blockers are good for controlling high blood pressure.  I don't know why the Dr. had not prescribed them.  I take a diuretic and lotrel.  Lotrel is a combination of 2 meds for blood pressure. One is an ace inhibitor that is supposed to help with left ventricular hypertrophy.  I think you are right about the beta blocker. They might improve the LVH.  I will ask the Dr. I am sorry I took so long to respond.
