Rib pain

After openheart surgery - it has been 9 weeks and I am doing pretty good but still have a strong achey (achy) pain in my right rib/breast area.  Right now I have a little cold and the cough has really made it worse.  It is not in the center or left side at all.  Is this common - why?  How long til it passe?

I am 8 years removed from Bypass. It took several months before my chest area was pain free. It takes a while for those bones to heal. Coughing just amplifies it--I feel your pain! It took well over a year before my chest area was back to normal, and by that I don't mean pain, but rather the tightness that comes with the healing and scarring process. With time it gets better.
